Directement à mon arrivée en Tanzanie, j'ai été accueillie par Obedy Kuguru et j'ai rejoint le MYODA Project, à Qua Mathias, à environ deux heures de route de Dar Es Salaam!
Directly on my arrival in Tanzania, I was greeted by Obedy Kuguru and I joined the MYODA Project in Qua Mathias, about two hours drive from Dar Es Salaam!
Participer au MYODA project, c'est avant tout aider en enseignant divers matières en anglais dans une école maternelle, auprès d'une trentaine d'enfants. Mais Obedy travaille également sur beaucoup d'autres projets: ayant ouvert plusieurs écoles du même genre dans différents villages, créé des associations villageoises , dont l'une, "Vicoba Mabadiliko", qui signifie "regroupement villageois pour le changement".
Participate to MYODA project, it is about help by teaching various subjects in English in a nursery school, with around thirty children. But Obedy is also working on many other projects: having opened several similar schools in different villages, created villages associations, one of them, "Vicoba Mabadiliko" which means " grouping village for change" .
Avec une autre volontaire, on aura l'occasion de participer à une réunion. Ca m'a permis de remarquer à quel point les Tanzaniens sont volontaires et motivés, toujours souriants et entreprenants malgré la petite misère dans laquelle ils vivent. Leurs chants transmettent chaleur et espoir!
With another volunteer, we had the opportunity to participate to a meeting. It allowed me to realized how Tanzanians are voluntary and motivated, enterprising and always smiling despite the small misery in which they live. Their songs give warmth and hope!
J'ai également participé à la création d'un site web pour son association TAS, Tanzania Albino Society, qui aide à soutenir les Albinos en Tanzanie. Avant d'arriver là, je ne réalisais pas l'urgence de la situation face au traitement des albinos en Afrique! C'est véritablement effroyable! I also participated in the creation of a website for his TAS association, Tanzania Albino Society, which helps support Albinos in Tanzania. Notre quotidien se résumait donc à enseigner à l'école le matin. L'après-midi, je travaillais sur le site web. Et le soir, on se retrouvait auprès de John, Marie et Victoria, la femme d'Obedy, afin de partager les meilleurs haricots en sauce (Victoria est une fantastique cuisinière) et d'échanger sur nos cultures,...
Our daily life is to teach at school in the morning. In the afternoon, I was working on the website. And in the evening we found ourselves with John, Mary and Victoria, Obedy,'s wife, to share the best beans in sauce (Victoria is a fantastic cook) and share about our cultures, ...
Je les remercie également de m'avoir gardé plus longtemps auprès d'eux, suite à quelques petits problèmes de santé. En Afrique, restez vigilant! J'ai en effet contracté une Adénite, infection des ganglions près de l'aine, due à une bactérie qui s'infiltre via une plaie ouverte au niveau des pieds ou jambes. La plaie en soit n'a jamais été trouvée malgré l'infection bien présente. Mais un traitement antibiotique et tout disparait en une semaine.
I also thank them for keeping me longer with them, due to some minor health problems. In Africa, stay vigilent! Indeed I have contracted a Adenitis, infection of the ganglias near the groin, caused by bacteria that seeps through an open wound in the feet or legs. The wound was never found despite the very present infection. But a good antibiotic treatment and everything disappears within a week.
Les weekend étant libre, on profite de l'une ou l'autre excursion, une fois à Bagamoyo, au nord de Dar Es Salaam, une fois à Kigamboni, au sud.
Being free on the weekend, we take advantage of any excursion, once in Bagamoyo, in the north of Dar Es Salaam, once Kigamboni the south.
Bagamoyo, c'est un beau bord de mer, avec son port, son marché au poisson et ses vieilles ruines. Attention par contre, l'eau peut être chaude, trop chaude. Ca en est presque décevant lorsque l'on rêve d'un peu de fraicheur!
Bagamoyo is a beautiful seaside, with its port, its fish market and old ruins. Warning, water may be hot, too hot. It's almost disappointing when we dream of a little freshness!
Kigamboni peut se révèler plus intéressant, premièrement parce que ses plages sont plus belles, de mon point de vue (malgré l'interdiction de quitter la plage de l'hôtel), et ensuite pour ceux qui voudrait faire du volontariat dans le coin, Il y a le KCC: Kigamboni Communication Center. A la fois école, orphelinat, ainsi que lieux d'enseignement d'art de rue ( Acrobaties, théatre, danse,...) et d'artisanat (vêtements, bracelets, sacs,... ). J'ai eu l'occasion de rencontrer une partie des organisateurs, via le Mikadi Beach Lodge (où nous avons séjourné, moi en mode camping pour 7$ / nuit ), où le centre détient une boutique. C'est un projet qui semble très intéressant, avec l'opportunité de travailler dans divers domaines. Et l'équipe est extra! Que demander de plus?
Kigamboni can be more interesting, first because its beaches are more beautiful, from my point of view (despite the prohibition to leave the hotel beache) and then to those who would like to volunteer in the area, there is the KCC: Kigamboni Communication Center. Both school, orphanage and street art teaching (acrobatics, theater, dance, ...) and crafts (clothes, bracelets, bags, ...). I had the opportunity to meet some of the organizers through the Mikadi Beach Lodge (where we stayed, me in camping mode for $ 7 / night), where the center has a shop. It is a project that looks very interesting, with the opportunity to work in various fields. And the team is great! What else?
