Encore une fois, grâce au east-african Visa, le passage frontière se passe sans encombre! J'emploie pour la énième fois la compagnie de bus Modern Coast, que l'on retrouve partout en Afrique de l'Est (Rwanda, Ouganda, Kenya, Tanzanie): départ à l'heure, fiable, sécurité, bas tarif! je n'ai vraiment rien à en redire!
Once again, thanks to the east-african Visa, the border crossing unfolds without incident! I use for the umpteenth time the bus company Modern Coast, which you can found everywhere in East Africa (Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania): departure in time, reliable, safe, low price! I really have nothing to complain about!
Une fois arrivée à Kisumu, au Kenya, je me trouve un petit hôtel pas trop cher, le New Victoria Hotel, afin d'y passer la nuit. Arrivant en fin d'après-midi: impossible pour moi d'attraper le ferry pour l’île de Mfangano, sur le lac Victoria. Je profite donc d'une petite balade nocturne dans Kisumu. Troisième plus grande ville du Kenya, celle-ci me semble pourtant bien calme et agréable. Les kenyans se révèlent également plutôt chaleureux et je fais de sympathiques rencontres sur les rives du lac!
After arrival in Kisumu, Kenya, I found a small hotel not too expensive, the New Victoria Hotel, to spend the night. Arriving late afternoon, impossible for me to catch the ferry to Mfangano Island on Lake Victoria. I therefore take a little night walk in Kisumu. Third largest city in Kenya, it seems nevertheless very calm and pleasant. Kenyans also appear to be rather welcoming and I make friendly encounters on the shores of the lake!
Le lendemain matin je reprend la route: bus et ferry, j'arrive fin d'après midi sur l'île de Mfangano afin de rejoindre mon projet de volontariat.
L'île est très belle, j’espérais pouvoir profiter, lors de mes temps libres, de belles excursions. Mes idées pour le projet bouillonnaient! c'était d'ailleurs le seul projet pour lequel je comptais participer, au Kenya, avant de retourner sur le projet MACAO en Tanzanie.
The next morning I'm back on the road: bus and ferry, I arrived late afternoon on Mfangano island to join my volunteering project.
The island is very beautiful, I was hoping to enjoy during my free time, beautiful excursions. My ideas for the project were boiling! it was also the only project for which I intended to participate in Kenya, before returning to the MACAO project in Tanzania.
Mais une bien mauvaise surprise m'attend le surlendemain de mon arrivée: Une énorme somme d'argent m'a été volée, sur le site du projet. J'avais pourtant bien cadenassé mon sac mais, ne l'utilisant jamais, j'avais oublié le zip d'accès de la poche principale... Ne voulant pas perdre plus de temps et d'argent dans des démarches juridiques, je quitte le projet dès le lendemain matin avec le premier ferry.
But a unpleasant surprise is waiting for me two days after my arrival: A huge amount of money was stolen on the project site. I had locked my bag well but, never using it, I had forgotten the access from the main pocket's zip ... Not wanting to waste more time and money in legal action, I leave the project the next morning with the first ferry.
Ce n'est ni la première, ni la dernière fois que ça m'arrive! En tant que voyageur, on apprend que vigilance constante est de mise, même si l'on aimerait parfois faire confiance aveugle aux personnes que l'on pense bien attentionnées...
This is neither the first nor the last time it happens! As a traveler, we learn that constant vigilance is needed, even if we would like sometimes to trust blindly the people we think so caring ...
